Mose Miller Passes Away

Darke County Farmer Dies Early Today at Age 82 Years

Mose Miller, one of Darke County's oldest pioneer settlers passed away at his home this morning at 6 o'clock from infirmities of old age and a complication of disease. He had lived for many years at the farm where he died, 4 and one half miles northeast of Greenville.

He was preceded in death about three years ago by his wife. They were the parents of fifteen children all of whom survive. Two daughters Mrs. Catherine Hoke and Mrs. Eliza Martin Laird reside in Greenville.

Funeral arrangements cannot be definitely made until word received from several of the daughters who live in California.

OBITUARY--MILLER

Moses Miller, son of John C. Miller, was born September 4, 1841, died January 21, 1924, aged 82 years, 4 months and 17 days. All these years he lived in this immediate vicinity, (Oakland church district.)

On the 8th day of November, 1863, he was married to Susanna Maurer. To this union were born 17 children, one died in infancy. After the death of Miss Ruth Miller's mother, her grandparents, Moses and Susanna Miller took her as their own child.

Many years he felt the need of a Savior and gave his heart to God and united with the Church of the Brethren. In this brotherhood he served most faithfully as deacon for more than a generation.

Agriculture was his chief occupation. He helped to clear away the great forests and to present to his community the splendid farms we enjoy. He was one of our hardest-working, honest, every day Christian men that has been the foundation of our people in this neighborhood.

He loved his family and gave his life for them. He was very industrious and was much happier when engaged in honest toil.

Brother Miller was a good neighbor and always had a word of cheer for everyone. Above all he was devoted to his church, and to his God. He was very faithful to church attendance and always happy when he could attend and meet with his brethren.

We will miss him in the community, and in the church, but most of all in the home. He leaves to mourn his departure, David Miller, Bradford, O.; George Miller, New Weston, Ohio; John Miller, Tippecanoe City, Ohio; Jacob Miller, Buckley, Illinois; Amos Miller, Bradford, Ohio; Mrs. Gertrude Besecker, Arcanum, Ohio; Mrs. Kathryn Hoke, Greenville, Ohio; Mrs. Sarah Snyder, Gaston, Ind.; Mrs. Elizabeth Lear, Greenville, Ohio; Mrs. Lydia Suderman, Pasadena, Cal.; Mrs. Hettie Blyly, Napanee, Ind.; Mrs. Martha Miller, Greenville, Ohio; Miss Susan Miller, Hollywood, Cal.; Mrs. Amanda Zeller, Ohio; also, 57 grandchildren and forty great-grandchildren; one brother, Noah, of Covington, Ohio, many other relatives and a host of friends.

OBITUARY--MILLER

Headstone of Moses Miller (1841-1924) and Susannah (Maurer) Miller (1846-1921)
Harris Creek Cemetery, Adams Township
Darke County, Ohio
Sister Susanna Miller (nee Maurer) daughter of Jacob and Sarah Maurer, was born one and one-half mile east of Oakland January 2d, 1846, and departed this life May 4, 1921, aged 75 years, 4 months and 2 days.

On November 8, 1863, she was united in holy matrimony with Moses Miller. To them were born seventeen children, eleven daughters and six sons, one daughter dying in infancy. They also reared to maturity one grandchild.

In the year 1863 she gave her heart to the Savior and united with the church of her choice in which she lived a constant christian life. She was a kind, affectionate mother and companion. Her great heart was always touched with the need of her children. She loved her family dearly and made great sacrifices and earnest effort for their comfort and blessing.

Brother and sister Miller have lived in this community all their lives and have many friends. She was afflicted for the last two years, gradually but surely her health was undermined and finally her spirit was released and winged its way to the great home of the redeemed. We shall miss her as a neighbor. We shall miss her in the church services but most of all she will be missed in the home. Mother is gone and what is home without a mother. She leaves to mourn her departure her aged companion, Moses Miller, Gertrude Besecker, Painter Creek, O.; Catherine Hoke, Greenville, O.; Sarah Snyder, Washington; Mary Martin, California; Elizabeth Lear, Greenville, O.; Lydia Suderman, California; Hettie Blyly, Indiana; Martha Miller, Gettysburg, O.; Susanna Miller, California; Amanda Zeller, Versailles, O.; David Miller, Bradford, O.; George Miller, Rose Hill, O.; John Miller, Tippecanoe City, O.; Jacob Miller, Buckley, Ill.; Isaac M.
