L3 Roger Lyle Smith, born February 10, 1969, Memorial Hospital, Clarksville, Montgomery County, Tennessee. He married Marcelle Rae Williams May 21, 1994 in Cookeville Methodist Church, Cookeville, Putnam County, Tennessee. She was born July 31, 1972 in Cookeville, Putnam County, Tennessee.

Roger and Marcy met while Roger was attending college at Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, Tennessee. Marcy is from Cookeville, although at the time of their meeting in 1991, she was living with her family in Elizabethtown, Kentucky and was in Cookeville visiting her grandparents.

In June of 1991, she transferred from Elizabethtown Community College to Tennessee Technological University. In December 1991, Roger transferred to Austin Peay State University in his home town of Clarksville, Tennessee, where he finished his bachelor's degree in May 1993.

They were married exactly one week after Marcy received her bachelor's degree from Tennessee Technological University in May 1994. They couldn't afford a honeymoon, and so Marcy up the next day and they left for Starkville, Mississippi, where Roger had been attending graduate school at Mississippi State University for the previous several months.
