In 1951, Paul G. Horine of Springfield, Missouri engaged a researcher, one Hans Helmuth Rimpau, of Brunswick, Germany, to research the Horine name. His interest was to connect the various Horine clans to one another. Mr. Horine was descended from three brothers; Michael, Jacob, and George, descendants of Peter Frederick DeLaHorine, who arrived in America in the ca, 1771. It was said that Peter Frederick was of French birth and went to Germany as a soldier and married a German woman. Paul Horine was trying to obtain a connection between these brothers and the ancestors of Johann Tobias Horein who arrived in America in 1749. He was unable to do so. He did determine that the name, in it's various forms such as Hohrein, Hohrain, Hohenrain, Harein, and Horein, is to be found in the parish records scattered around a wide territory in Wurttemberg, not only at Flein and Heilbronnn, but many other villages in the area. He came across a hamlet that received it's name from the Horein family. In German, the words "hohen" and "rain", mean "high" and "ridge", which explained Mr. Horine's father's stories of how the name meant "High-up-on-the-Rhine". Although Mr. Rimpau was unable to find anything that pertained to Peter Frederick Hohrein, nor his service in the German military under Frederick I of Prussia, he did find many records on Tobias Horine's ancestors beginning with Jerg Horein.
Jerg Horein's family consisted of 9 children, only Jacob is known at this time.
