p. 14MILLER.-Near Independence, Kans., Sept 13, sister Nancy, wife of Bro. John J. Miller, aged 66 years.
Deceased was born near Liberty, Montgomery Co., Ohio in 1821; married John J. Miller in 1844; moved to Darke Co., near Webster, the same year, where they lived, labored and toiled together until they accumulated quite a fortune. Ten children were given them, two having preceded their mother to the spirit land. The remains were brought back to Ohio, and, on Sept. 18, a large concourse of people assembled at the Oakland church to pay the last tribute of respect to the departed. Services by Eld. August 17, 1897 Mr. J. J. Miller is quite ill with inflammation of the bowels and his advanced age makes the attack serious. August 19, 1897 J. J. Miller continues to be quite ill. August 21, 1897 Mr. J. J. Miller was reported much better yesterday, August 25, 1897 Mr. J. J. Miller has so far improved that he is able to sit up. November 2, 1897 DIED THIS MORNING Mr. J. J. Miller, residing south of town, whose illness the Reporter has noted from time to time, died at 12:59 this morning. The remains will be sent to Indiana [sic] for burial. November 3, 1897
The funeral of Mr. J. J. Miller took place from the Dunkard church last night and the remains were shipped to Versailles, Ohio, for burial. Mr. Miller was about 77 years of age and his death was due to an impaction of the bowels from which he has been suffering for three or four months past.
Funeral of John J. Miller Notice was given in these columns of the death of John J. Miller, of Kansas. Mr. Mozier a friend and neighbor of the deceased arrived here with the remains, Friday morning, which were conveyed to his old home, now owned by his son Isaac, by undertaker Leonard Marker, The funeral services were held from the Oakland church, Saturday morning, Rev Abraham Brumbaugh officiating. Interment in the cemetery near the church. Mrs. Miller is afflicted with dropsy and was not able to accompany the remains of her husband to his last resting place. John J. Miller was born Feb, 2, 1823, died Nov. 3, 1894 (sic), aged 74 years, 9 months and 1 day. He was married to Nancy Rohrer in 1844 which union was blessed with 10 children-5 sons and 5 daughters, the mother and three daughters having preceded him to the world beyond. In 1888 he was married again in Kansas. He leaves a widow and seven children to mourn his loss.
