K1 Gary L. Bowman, born 1943, died December 5, 2007; married January 3, 1964 Sandra K. Warner.

Gary L. Bowman, 64, of Greenville, passed away Wednesday morning Dec. 5, 2007, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.

He was born in Greenville, the son of the late Harold and Grace (Brumbaugh) Bowman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Faye E. Heitkamp on Nov. 3, 2006.

Gary and his wife owned and operated Bowman's Concessions in Greenville. He was a former officer and detective with the Greenville Police Department.

He was a member of the Oakland Church of the Brethren, the Ohio Fair Managers Association and a former member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He also refereed basketball games for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sandra K. (Warner) Bowman, whom he married Jan. 3, 1964; children, Wayne and his wife, Loretta Bowman, Craig Bowman and Carolyn Bowman, all of Greenville; grandchildren, Meagan Hill, Nathan Hill, Aaron Bruss, Joshua Heitkamp, Noah Heitkamp, and Krista Edger; a sister, Sue A. Swank of Greenville; a son-in-law, Chris Heitkamp; and his stepmother, Norma Jean Bowman of Eaton.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home, Greenville, with the Rev. Hershel Fee officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Bowman, a Darke County icon, will be missed

GREENVILLE- For many years, Gary Bowman was a name that many people in Darke County was able to associate with.

Wednesday, Dec. 5, Bowman passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital with Polycystic Kidney Disease.

Bowman started to make a name for himself in the early 70's as a voice on WDRK radio in Greenville, sharing time with the likes of Bill Booker, Lee and Randy Rutherford as well as others.

Bowman was the farm director at the station that was once located on Sweitzer Avenue. His farm show aired in the early morning hours while Booker was the sports director and did many basketball broadcasts with Booker and even called a state championship game.

He was also a police officer in Greenville, Ansonia and Union City early in his life.
