"Aaron K. Miller, son of John C. and Gertrude Kreider Miller, was born at the old Miller homestead one mile southwest of the Oak Grove church, April 16, 1835. In his later years he and his wife, Susan, lived the first place west of the Oakland church, in the brick house back from the road on the south side. He was elected to the ministry and later ordained to the Eldership and when the 1881 divide came, identified himself with the Old German Baptist brethren and gave the ground for the Oak Grove church just south of his buildings in the woods near the railroad. He died February 9, 1899, after a few hours of suffering. He was the presiding Elder at Oak Grove and after his passing the church was left without an overseer or minister. He is buried in the Oakland Cemetery."

Rev. Aaron Krider Miller

After But Four Hours of Illness of Neuralgia of the Heart

The community surrounding the Oakland church, north of Gettysburg, was greatly shocked on Thursday of last week from the sad intelligence of the sudden death of Rev. Aaron Krider Miller, the only pastor of the Oak Grove church of that immediate vicinity.

He had been seemingly in robust health and of vigorous physique and that he should so soon be the victim of the resistless hand of death was the least expected by the near and dear ones around him.

For about a week before his death he complained at times of a slight pain in his breast, but attended to his work at home as well as to such business that had been intrusted in his care, up to about 9 o'clock, last Thursday morning, when he was suddenly almost prostrated by a severe pain in the breast, neuralgia of the heart, from which he suffered untold agony for about four hours, when the messenger came to his relief and bore is spirit away.

Aaron K. Miller was born April 16, 1836 and departed this life Feb. 9, 1899, aged 63 years, 9 months and 23 days.

He spent his entire life in Darke county in the vicinity of his late home. In his early manhood he united with the Dunkard church in which society he ever proved a helpful influential and worthy member. His daily walks and conversations were characteristic of such strong impulses of integrity of heart and kindness of soul that endeared him to all who learned to know him and no one loved him better than those who knew him best. Truly a good man has gone from among us and the places that knew him once so well and favorably upon the stage of action shall know him no more forever.

Some twelve years ago the deceased was elected pastor of the Old Order Dunkards, which capacity he served with satisfaction to his congregation, honor to himself and reverence to his Master above.

His last services as pastor of his congregation were held on Sunday, January 29, when he preached with his usual vigor of health and earnestness of soul and at the close announcing the service again in two weeks, thus virtually announcing the services of his own funeral, which was held at the church, last Sunday morning at 10 o'clock, Elder Bowman and others officiating. Interment in Oakland cemetery.

He leaves a broken hearted side companion, 3 sons, 6 daughters, 5 brothers and 3 sisters besides a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn the loss of one whom they knew not but to love.

Clipping found in the Bible of Aaron's sister Mary A. Miller, now held by Derrick Brumbaugh.
