Kreitzer Funeral Home Orville W. Lavy
(September 2, 1916 - October 20, 2009) Orville Wilbur Lavy, 93, of Arcanum, died Tuesday evening, October 20, 2009 at the Brethren Retirement Community. The 4th son of David & Ida Flora Lavy was born September 2, 1916 in Franklin Twp., Darke County. As a young man he was baptized into the church of his choice, the OGBB Church and remained faithful. On September 8, 1934 he was united in marriage to Opal Irene Metzger of Montgomery Co., the daughter of Charles Wm. Metzger and Huldah Miller. Three children were born to them, Alberta, Delmar, and Dean. Soon after Dean's birth, Opal passed away on January 28, 1950. On November 18, 1950, he married Edna Ruth Landis Jones. Most of his life Daddy was a farmer, but tried his hand in making cabinets, selling Shaklee, and a few other things. Together they liked to travel, fishing, and hunting were his hobbies. He instilled the love of the outdoors and nature to his Grand and Great Grandsons. They shared the joys and sorrows of life till God saw fit to call Mother home on September 25, 2000. Again Daddy was very lonesome, but continued to stay at home until his eyesight began to fail him and then made his home at the Brethren Retirement Community. He made many new friends there quite quickly, telling them all about his life's experiences. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Clarence, infant Brother Virgil (of 9 days), Ezra, and Lester, grandson David Lavy and great grandson Nathan Lavy. Surviving are his daughter Alberta Sarver (husband John) of Arcanum; Sons Delmar (wife Marjorie) of Eltopia, WA and Dean (wife Ginny) of Arcanum; Step sons Gary Jones (wife Janet) of Eldorado and Dean Jones (wife Becky) of Greenville; 7 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren. 5 step grandchildren, 25 step great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Friday October 23, 2009 at the Painter Creek Old German Baptist Brethren Church. Burial will follow in Mote Cemetery, Pitsburg, beside his first wife. The family will receive relatives and friends 5 - 8 PM Thursday at the Kreitzer Funeral Home, Arcanum.
