Delmar Ray Lavy, son of Orville and Opal (Metzger) Lavy was born June 4, 1937 in Laura Ohio. He passed peacefully from his earthly body, to be with his Father in Heaven on May 15, 2019. He was surrounded by his Beloved wife, some of his children and grandchildren, as he made the last part of his life’s journey. The spirit of God was present as his family cheered him on with God’s word and prayer, the final change being when Mother read aloud to him one of his favorite Bible passages, Revelation 22:17,20-21 And the Spirit and the bride say, come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. He which testifieth these things saith, surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. It seemed that those words were helping usher him into Glory. Those of us who were privileged to be with him when he departed felt that we witnessed a beautiful scene of the peaceful passing of a saint, which was his prayer to the Father. The day of death is better than the day of one’s birth Ecclesiastes 7:1
At the tender age of 12, Daddy lost his Mother which left a great impact on his life. He had a heart of care and concern for the hurting.
Daddy answered the call of the Holy Spirit and was baptized into Jesus Christ on Sept.22, 1957 and became a member of the Old German Baptist Brethren Church.
On June 21, 1958 he was united in holy matrimony to Marjorie Evelyn Garber, daughter of Emmert and Mary Garber. They were blessed with over 60 yrs of a loving, Christian marriage enjoying their 60th wedding anniversary visiting the Butchart Gardens, to which he proclaimed was a foretaste of heaven. God’s favor and joy came with the birth of 2 sons and 3 daughters.
Dad and Mother made their first home in Modesto California, working for her parents at Garber Poultry Breeding Farms. Later on, they moved to Ohio for a few years, but California drew them back. They spent several years living on a peach ranch raising their children. Dad enjoyed being in the orchards seeing the fruit of his labor. In 1988, they followed their children to Washington, where they farmed hay for the next 30 years. Dad, Mother, and son David with his family worked together in hay farming. Dad continued to care for the land after David’s passing. Dad enjoyed the outdoors, hunting in his younger years, camping, and fishing. We hold many fond memories of him fly fishing in the beautiful mountains. Dad and Mother would take short trips to the mountains where they felt close to God, conveniently finding a fishing hole, too. Dad loved people, especially children. Many neighbors and friends have commented on how they appreciated their visits with him as he went for his daily coffee, always willing to share his love for Jesus.
As Dad learned the news of his diagnosis, he had a desire to be healed, if God saw fit to grant him more time with his companion, also receiving the anointing which gave him much comfort. He responded with patience, often commenting “This is right where God wants me to be.” As we cared for him the last several months, we were blessed by His experiences of God’s Kingdom and the devotion he had for truth, the testimony of our Saviors’ Love. Even as Dad was too weak to speak loudly, he was heard very clearly in the night, praising God, saying “Jesus Christ is our only Saviour. Amen and Amen, and Amen.”
He is survived by his loving companion Marjorie, son-Bradley and Molly, daughter- Dana and Paul Bauman, daughter- Michelle and Curtis Brubaker, daughter in-law- Susan and Daniel Sink, daughter- Mary and Andrew Reavis. Grandchildren- Heidi and Dustin Riley, Douglas and Lanta Lavy, Mandy and Chad King, Marcy and Winston Pegg, Kelly and Craig Deaton, Quincy Lavy, Bethany and Jonathan Callaway, Clement and Laurie Bauman, Caleb Bauman, Carrie and James Callaway, Joni and Adam Knaus, Jesse Bauman, Jacob Bauman, Katrina Bauman, Lamoine Brubaker, Cassie and Bode Scott, John and Chelsea Brubaker, Jason Brubaker, Crystal Brubaker, Dustin Lavy, David Lavy, Marianne Sink, John Sink, Felicity, Mattie, Adaleise, and Quinnlan Reavis, 21 great-grandchildren, a brother in law- John and Evelyn Sarver, brother- Dean Alan Lavy, step brother- Dean and Becky Jones, sister in-law, Betty Lou Garber.
Waiting to meet him in Glory were his parents and step mother- Edna (Jones) Lavy, grandson- Nathan David Lavy, son- David Delmar Lavy, brother-in-law- Merlyn Garber, sister- Alberta Sarver, step brother-Gary Jones.
Dad shared with and deeply desired that his children and grandchildren “Would live to the praise of His glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchase possession, unto the praise of His glory.
