Mr. Carroll Lee Horine, 91, of Frederick, MD passed away Monday, April 29, 2013 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Vera May Horine.
Born on May 27, 1921 in Myersville, MD he was the son of the late Grover and Annie Palmer Horine.
Mr. Horine proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Force during WWII as a Fighter Pilot. He was a teacher for 35 years with the Frederick County Public Schools, taught Drivers Education, helped with the FFA and 4-H. Carroll was a Mason, and an umpire for the Babe Ruth League and also worked extensively with the agricultural community with Frederick County.
He is survived by his children Donna Sherwood, Jennie Hill and Carroll J. Horine.
He is preceded in death by Vera M. Horine and James Horine.
The family will receive friends at Stauffer Family Services (formerly Dailey Funeral Home), 1201 N. Market St., Frederick on Friday, May 3, 2013 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 4 at People's Baptist Church, 6648 Carpenter Rd., Frederick at 11 AM. Dr. Kent Ramler will officiate.
VERA MAY HORINEMrs. Vera May Horine, 89 of Fairview Avenue, Frederick, died Monday, November 2 at the Northampton Manor Nursing Center, Frederick. She was the wife of Carroll L. Horine, whom she married on August 30, 1947. Born March 23, 1920, in Cincinnati, Ohio, a daughter of the late Benjamin and Nettie Walkenhorst Maxon. Mrs. Horine taught school in the Frederick County school system for many years. She was a member of People's Baptist Church of Frederick. She was a former member of the Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, former member of the D.A.R., former member of the Catoctin Kennel Club, a past Matron of Chapter #79 Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing the Violin and playing Bridge. She was the 1st violinist in the Hughes High School Orchestra. She also was an avid fan of the Baltimore Orioles. Surviving besides her husband Carroll at home, are three children: Donna F. Sherwood and husband Keith of Baltimore, Jennie L. Hill and husband Larry of Frederick, and Carroll "Jay" Horine of Derwood; five grandchildren: Erica Fay Keefer and husband Patrick, Danielle Marie Sherwood, Bryan Von Sherwood, Abigail Jones, and Julia Jones; a brother Vernon Maxson and wife Ruth of Cincinnati, OH, and several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by a son: James Carroll Horine. Mrs. Horine is at the Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Homes, P.A., 1201 North Market Street, Frederick, where the family will receive friends from 3-5 & 7-9 P.M., Friday, November 6. Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, November 7 at the funeral home with her pastor, Rev. Kent B. Ramler, People's Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick. Memorials may be made in Mrs. Horine's name to the People's Baptist Church, 6648 Carpenters Road, Frederick, Maryland 21703 or to the Order of the Eastern Star #79, P.O.
