Waldo Emerson Witwer January 17, 1913 - September 29, 2009 Mr. Waldo Emerson Witwer, 96, of Greenville, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at 1:35 AM at the Brethren Retirement Community, Greenville, Ohio. He was born on January 17, 1913 in Darke County, Ohio to the late Harley & Myrtle (Cassel) Witwer. He attended Gettysburg High School and graduated in 1930. He attended University of Cincinnati and studied electrical engineering. He worked for a short time at Petersime Incubator Factory in Gettysburg and then Hobart Mgf Co. for 36 years as a supervisor of the Motor Department. He was a dedicated and faithful member of the Oakland Church of the Brethren all his life. His passions there were serving others through helping with various church projects including Dinner Theater food preparation, the Watermelon Tent at the Great Darke County Fair, and serving meals at the Old German Baptist Brethren Annual Meetings. He also served as deacon for many years and on the Village of Gettysburg's Town Council for several years. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a son in law J. D. Weaver. He is survived by wife, Helen (Maurer) Witwer of Greenville, Ohio whom he married on September 11, 1942; children and spouses; Fred and Millie Witwer of Beavercreek, Ohio, Melvin and Karen Witwer of Kettering, Ohio, Jane Dawson of Centerville, Ohio, Joyce and Robert Callaway of Michigan City, IN, Janet and David Julian of Greenville and Daniel and Lynn Witwer of Greenville; grandchildren, Leslie Mayes, Kevin Witwer, Michelle & Troy Reed, Brian & Lynn Dawson, Angie & Steve Rhynard, Jaime & Michelle Weaver, Jolie & Seth Larris, Megan & Jody Sarber, Erin Julian, Logan Witwer and Kelly Witwer; great grandchildren, Tyler Mayes, Morgan Reed, Rhiann Reed, Kayla Dawson, Kyle Dawson, Nathan Rhynard, James Weaver, Jenna Weaver and Lilly Larris; brother and sister in law, Leo & Jeanne Witwer of Greenville, sisters in law, Beulah Maurer of Greenville and Anita Kniesley of Greenville as well as numerous nieces and nephews. There will be a service held on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Oakland Church of the Brethren, 8058 Horatio Harris Creek Rd., Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Bill Kidwell officiating. There will be a private graveside service at Gettysburg Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Friday, October 2, 2009 from 5-8 PM at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville as well as a gathering at 9-10 AM at the church on Saturday. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Oakland Church of the Brethren or the Resident Aid Fund of the Brethren Retirement Community.
