Sylvia Blanche Kissel |
Lewis Miller Wagamon, son of Christopher and Mary Wagamon, was born at Horatio, Ohio, and attended school in the one room schoolhouse there.
On March 9, 1899, Lewis was married to Sylvia Blanche Kissel by Jesse Carr. Sylvia, the daughter of Simon and Angeline Kissel, was born at Union City, Indiana, and with her parents moved to Horatio. Lewis and Sylvia became sweethearts when they were in seventh grade in Horatio. They built a house on the southeast two acres of Christopher and Mary Wagamon's farm and across from Simon and Angelina Kissel's house. Lewis and Sylvia lived in that house from 1899 to 1941.
Lewis drove schoolbus and farmed, raising mostly tobacco and corn. A democrat, he was active in township politics. Lewis was a kind, gentle man who never said an unkind word about anyone. Although he did not have a lot of schooling, he was an intelligent man, very tolerant, wise and judicious. From 1899 till he died in 1941, Lewis kept a daily diary, noting births, deaths, visits, and prices along with his daily activities. Much of the information for this genealogy comes from those diaries.
Sylvia (portrait on right) was a very religious woman to whom God and heaven were very real. She attended church almost daily. Lewis joined the church December 4, 1913.
