Dale W. Miller

Dale W. Miller, 76, of Walnut Creek. died May 4 in Riverside Hospital at Columbus after a long illness.

Born at Versailles, he was a son of the late Earl M. and Olive Wagaman Miller. He retired as a farmer in the Versailles area.

Surviving are his wife, the former Lois E. Eikenberry; two daughters and two sons, Barbara J Brinkman of Watertown, S.D., Beverly A. Matsumura of Whittier, Calif., Douglas E. of Petaluma, Calif., and Dwight L., of Kent; two brothers, Glenn N. of Greenville and Dr. Otho J. Miller of Kirkwood, Ill.; and 11 grandchildren.

Services were held May 7 in Millers-Baird-Helman Funeral Home at Greenville with Rev. Elmer Brinkman officiating. Burial was in Harris Creek Cemetery at Bradford.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.


Lois Eikenberry Miller
1917-2011

Lois E. Miller, age 93, of Watertown, South Dakota (originally from Ohio) passed away Monday, January 31, 2011 at Jenkins Living Center in Watertown, South Dakota. Funeral services will be on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Watertown with Pastor Joel Higgins officiating. Musicians will be Dorothy Brugman, organist, Beverly Matsumura, flutist, Kayla Brinkman, violinist, and Dave Matsumura will be the soloist.

Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 4, 2011 at Wight, Comes & Sogn Funeral Chapel in Watertown.

Interment will be at Harris Creek Cemetery in Bradford, Ohio on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 - there will be a visitation at the Bradford Chapel from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m., then burial. The Stocker-Fraley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements in Ohio.

Pallbearers will be Dave Matsumura, Matthew Miller, Jeffrey Miller, Christine Matsumura, Donna Villacis and Kayla Brinkman.

Honorary Pallbearers will be First United Chancel Choir.

Lois E. Miller was born on May 22, 1917 to John and Kathryn (Mummert) Eikenberry in Middleton, Ohio. She grew up in Ohio where she graduated from Bradford High School. She received a teaching certificate from Manchester College in North Manchester, Indiana, later receiving her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Otterbein College. Lois taught in Ohio elementary schools for over 20 years and was known as the "Smiley Teacher". She married Dale W. Miller on December 25, 1940. She had a love for her family, the children she taught, for writing poetry, and had started a children's book entitled "Children on the Lawn". Lois enjoyed music, gardening, especially flowers, and was very adventurous and loved to travel.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Retired Teachers Association of Ohio, Fine Arts Club, Handbell Choir, Christian Women's Club, and The Jolly 17'ers (an international pen pal group with members born in 1917).

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale who passed away on May 4, 1992; and her sister, Ruth Erbaugh.

Lois is survived by her dear friend, Russell Bracht of Watertown, SD; her children, Doug Miller (his girlfriend, Pui King Wong) of San Francisco, CA, Barbara (Elmer) Brinkman of Watertown, SD, Dwight (Chris) Miller of Kent, OH, and Beverly (Tom) Matsumura of Camarillo, CA; 10 grandchildren, Donna (John) Villacis of Austin, TX, Paula Brinkman (her husband, Dave Munneke) of Maple Grove, MN, Kendra (Jamie) Zachrison of Pflugerville, TX, Kayla Brinkman of St. Paul, MN, Matthew Miller of Chicago, IL, Whitney Miller of Chicago, IL, Jeffrey Miller of Chicago, IL, Dave Matsumura of Santa Cruz, CA, Christine Matsumura of San Jose, CA and Tiffany Matsumura of Camarillo, CA; her 5 great grandchildren, David Villacis-4yrs, Vanessa Villacis-1yr, Isaac Zachrison-4yrs, Elise Zachrison-1yr and Adam Munneke-2 yrs.
