Elizabeth Alice Horine (1868-1960) J5 Elizabeth Alice Horine, born ca. 1868, died 1960; married December 25, 1888 Martin Luther Snyder, born August 23, 1862 in Frederick County Maryland, died November 15, 1938 in Darke County, Ohio. Two children. Martin's father was Moses Hamilton Snyder and his mother was Sarah Maria Smith.

Woman, 92, Dies Following Fall

WEST MANCHESTER - A 92-year-old Darke County woman, Mrs. Elizabeth Alice Snyder, died at Wayne hospital, Greenville, Wednesday evening following injuries sustained in a fall 11 days ago. The fall occurred at the home of a son, Calvin, of R.R. 1, Arcanum, where she had resided for the past 13 years. Mrs. Snyder was a native of Butler Township. She belonged to the Otterbein EUB church. Her husband, Martin L., died 22 years ago. Surviving are two sons, Charles of R.R. 1, New Madison and Calvin; seven grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Michael funeral home here, with the Rev. Harold Knepp officiating. Burial will be in Otterbein cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday.

LIVED NEAR CASTINE

Funeral Services to be Held at
Late Home

Luther Snyder, 76 years old, died at his late home, two miles north of Castine, early Tuesday evening after a short illness.

He leaves a widow, Alice, and two sons, Charles and Calvin, both of Castine.

Funeral services will be conducted from the residence at two o'clock Friday afternoon with the Rev. A. W. Lynn, Arcanum, officiating. Burial will be at Abbottsville.


They [Alice & Luther Snyder] lived 12 miles from the Battle of Gettysburg. They moved to Ohio for better farming opportunities. Luther started out working for another farmer for $8 a month for 9 months a year; the other 3 months of the year made up for room and board." Also, "During the Civil War my great-great-grandfather [Luther] gave his best horse so he wouldn't have to go to war."
