H1 Joseph Elva Overholser, born 21 November 1885, Darke County, Ohio, died 9 July 1988 Greenville, Ohio. Married (first Wife) 24 December 1908, Bradford, Ohio, to Esther Elizabeth Frey daughter of Claude Frey and Mary Inman, born 25 December 1887, near Bradford, Ohio, died 10 September 1952, Bradford, Ohio. Five children. Married (second wife) 7 June 1953 Ossian, Indiana, Ida E. Henschen daughter of Jacob Henschen and Mary Spangler, born 8 January 1885, Decatur, Indiana, died 9 July 1985, Ossian, Indiana.

J. E. was elected to the ministry in 1918 in the Bradford Church of the Brethren. He was the pastor of a number of different congregations during his long life in addition to being employed by the Brethren Publishing House in Elgin, Illinois for two years. He and Esther are buried Harris Creek Cemetery and Ida in Pleasant Dale Cemetery in Decatur, Indiana.
