Esther Miller (1787-1861)

E3 Esther Miller, born May 30, 1787, died April 21, 1861 Elkhart County, Indiana; married E6 John Miller, (her first cousin), born December 15, 1787, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, died June 11, 1856 in Harrison Township, Elkhart County, Indiana. They lived in Randolph Township, Montgomery County, Ohio until about 1829, moving north to Newberry Township, Miami County, Ohio and in 1835 to Elkhart County, Indiana.

John was elected to the ministry in the Wolf Creek German Baptist Brethren congregation in Montgomery County. In Miami County his ministry was with the Upper Stillwater congregation. In Indiana, he helped organize Turkey Creek in 1837 or 1838, Rock Run in 1853, and as Elder in charge, Yellow Creek in 1856. They are buried in the Miller (Hoke) Cemetery located on the farm of their son Jacob Y. Miller on the north side of county road 38 between county roads 9 and 11 in Elkhart County. John's marker is engraved with the age at death of 68 years and 6 months which would place his birth as December 11, 1787, however a record of the family written June 17, 1824 gives his birth as December 15, 1787. Esther's name is engraved Ester.

She married (2) March 9, 1837 in Elkhart County, Indiana, John Knisley 1816-1893, a Brethren Elder, and is buried Union Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Marshall County.

F2 David Y. Miller ^F2, born April 15, 1809 in Montgomery County, Ohio, died August 4, 1898 in Rossville, Indiana, married April 8, 1829, (1) Eve Bainter born December 10, 1811 in Ohio, died March 12, 1873, daughter of Frederick Bainter and Margaret Roof; married (2) September 7, 1880 in Clinton County, Indiana, Elizabeth Bainter, born March 12, 1825 in Montgomery County, Ohio, died October 17, 1879, sister of Eve, widow of David McMulland 1815-1879. He was elected to the ministry about 1856 in the Yellow Creek German Baptist Brethren church, withdrew membership September 15, 1881 retaining his ministry in the newly formed Middlefork Old German Baptist Brethren congregation in which he eventually served as an Elder. He and his wives are buried Miller (Hoke) Cemetery.
