Moses W. Cairns built the house later purchased by William and Margaret Ann (Wagoner) Moreland in Harrison County, Ohio. It was built as a two- family dwelling for his parents and himself. William and Margaret Moreland moved into the house in April 1890. John and Mary Ellen (Wagoner) Smith [Mary Ellen was a sister to Margaret Ann Moreland] lived with the Morelands until their house was built on the adjoining land to the west.
Moses and Nancy moved to Pontiac Illinois in 1894.

Death of Mrs. Moses CairnsAt her residence on East Water street, Mrs. Moses Cairns died this morning at 9 o'clock of general paralysis. Her recent illness has been of a month's duration, although she has been ailing for the past two years. Her death was not an entire surprise as the family had been told by their physician that she would not get well. Acting upon their advice, Miss Mahala, her daughter, now traveling in Europe, was sent for: also George, who is in the mountains of Idaho. The latter may reach here in time for the services.
Mrs. Cairn's maiden name was Nancy J. Bower. She was born in Bowerstone [sic], Ohio, in 1847. She was married March 9, 1870, to Moses Cairns. She moved from Bowerstone in 1894, coming to Pontiac where she and her husband have since resided. Six children were born to them, one dying in infancy. Those surviving are: Mrs. Adella Belle Lyons, Clarence, Mahala, George and Gertrude.
The exact time of the funeral service has not been appointed as yet, waiting to hear from her son and other relatives. Mrs. Cairns was of a retiring disposition, being devotedly attached to her family and home. She was a member of the Lutheran church.

M. W. CairnsM. W. Cairns, for many years a well known resident of Pontiac, passed away at 7:30 o'clock this morning at the home of his daughter Mrs. Adella Lyons, in Rooks Creek township. Death was due to heart trouble, Mr. Cairns having been ill for the past seven months.
The funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock on Thursday afternoon, January 1, 1931, from the chapel of the R. J. Harris mortuary in this city. Rev. A. B. Morrow, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, will be in charge. Burial will be in the south side cemetery.
M. W. Cairns was born in Bridgeport, Ohio, August 31, 1847, son of Samuel and Mahala (fisher) Cairns. His early life was spent in Ohio and for the past thirty-six years he had made this city his residence. He was united in marriage to Nancy Jane Bowers at Bowerstown, Ohio, in April of 1870. Mrs. Cairns preceded her husband in death June 7, 1901.
Mr. Cairns is survived by three daughters and two sons: Adella Lyons, of Rooks Creek; Mrs. Mahala Bradish of Jacksonville, Ill.; Mrs. Gertrude McGregor, of this city; Clarence Cairns, of East Sparta, Ohio; and George Cairns, of Boule, Ariz. Mr Cairns' father passed away when the former was but ten years of age. His mother preceded him in death twenty-two years ago. One child preceded him in infancy, besides two sisters ands a brother.
Mr. Cairns was a member of the Masonic lodge at Leesville, Ohio, for many years, which lodge has since disbanded.

M. W. CairnsFuneral services for the late M. W. Cairns were held Thursday afternoon, January 1, at the R. J. Harris chapel at 2:30 o'clock. Rev A. B. Morrow, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, was in charge. Pallbearers were Clarence Pemberton, Elva Lee, Wm. Weber, Charles Kemp, C. A. Potter and John Hoerner. Burial took place in the south side cemetery.
