Edward T. Miller (1895-1997)

Miller, born November 6, 1895, Rural Jasper County Missouri, near Carthage; died October 2, 1997, Belton, Cass County, Missouri; married Lottie Leola Embrey, March 21, 1926, Rural Newton County, Missouri; born October 1, 1905, Newtonia, Newton County, Missouri; died June 7, 1997 in Belton, Cass County, Missouri.

Ed said that he was not given a middle name or initial. When he entered the Army during WWI he was required to have a middle initial so he chose T and was known as Edward T Miller for military purposes. However, in the census for 1900 when he was 5 years old, his name was given as Edward T. Miller. The family Bible also gives his name as Edward T. Miller. Ed worked as a farmer for most of his life. He lived to be almost 102 and was mentally very alert with amazing recall of names and family relationships. He lived his last seven years in a nursing home but was able to be up and get himself to meals until the very end of his life. Edward T. Miller is buried in Dice Cemetery, Fairview, Newton County , Missouri; Cause of Death: Heart failure at age almost 102; Occupation: Farm laborer; Religion: Methodist.

After high school graduation, Lottie taught school briefly at a country school. After marriage and moving to Belton, Missouri, she began work as a seamstress at the Grace Company, a manufacturer of luxury children's clothing. She retired as supervisor of the cutting department. Leola Embrey was buried on June 11, 1997, in Dice Cemetery, Fairview, Missouri; Cause of Death: Congestive Heart Failure; Medical Information: Had both arthritic knees replaced in 1991.
