LINE: A1 Johann Michael (Mueller) Miller | B6 Johann Michael Miller, Jr. | C7 Philip Jacob Miller | D3 David Miller | E1 Michael Miller

Abraham Miller (1824-1910) F9 Abraham Miller, born 2 April, 1824, Montgomery County, Ohio. Died 14 July, 1910, at the home of his son, Jacob Miller, near Laketon; married Hannah Butterbaugh, on 11 November, 1847, Montgomery County, Ohio.

Soon after they married, he made a trip on horseback and purchased land in Pleasant Township, Wabash County, Indiana, near the place where Rose Hill was established sometime later. In 1850 Abraham and Hannah came to the section of land he had chosen. It was, for the most part, dense forest at the time. Like the other pioneer settlers, they set to work to clear the land and by the hard work incident to pioneer days they built out of the woods one of the best farms in this section. He accumulated considerable property and it is said that his advice was sought by many on business matters.

In 1850, he and Hannah joined the Church of the Brethren and became devout and prominent members of the church. He was a member of the committee on arrangements in 1878, when the annual conference was held at the church house west of North Manchester. He was a member of the building committee when the brick church was built at West Manchester. In about 1887, he built the large brick dwelling house, standing as of 1974, on the north side of State Road #114 and just west of Clear Creek.

His character was expressed by the pastor at his funeral.

"He was rich in good works. We need not mention the fact of his readiness to assist in every worthy cause. His Christian life and character are better known to this audience than could be expressed by the words of any obituary that might be written. For 28 years or more, he has suffered with bodily infirmities, his affliction at times being most severe, but was born with patience and Christian fortitude".
(He suffered a broken hip prior to 1887 and got about on crutches until his death).

Hannah was born in Montgomery County, Ohio, on 12 February, 1826. Her parents were Henry and Lydia (Mishler) Butterbaugh. They were devout members of the Church of the Brethren. A writer who attended her ninetieth birthday celebration, characterized her as having had a simple faith, a Christian character and a godly life which was an inspiration to all. She died several months later at the home of Mrs. John Cupp, in 1816. They are buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
