WARNER James "Jim" Penrod Warner, of Grove City, departed this life on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at the age of 68. Jim was born in Columbus, Ohio on June 19, 1942, to James Henry and Mary Penrod Warner. He attended Main Street Elementary and East High School, and graduated in 1960 from Marion-Franklin High School. As a child he attended and was baptized at the Miller Avenue Evangelical Lutheran Church and after moving to Grove City, became a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Grove City.
Jim served in the U.S.A.F., with the 801ST Combat Support Group, and saw assignments including Biloxi, MS, Sault Ste Marie, MI., and Wiesbaden, Germany. He was trained as an Aircraft Control and Warning Operator, and received the U.S.A.F. Good Conduct Medal. Shortly after his discharge from military service, he was introduced to Brenda Lu McClanahan, of West Union, Ohio. Little did either of them know that one blind date would launch a friendship and romance lasting nearly 5 decades, until her unexpected passing on November 15, 2009.
Jim began his civilian career as an apprentice sheet metal worker, and over a span of 37 years worked for companies including; Kelly Sheet Metal, A.H. Lumm, Bogen, Airtron, and Columbus-Worthington Air. He closed out his career as a Heating and Air Conditioning Specialist with South-Western City Schools.
Jim was a self-made fix-it-man, teaching himself auto repair and carpentry skills; and he was always willing to help a friend or family member who needed his expertise and his strong back. Of his many accomplishments, he was most proud of being "Papaw" to his three grandsons, Matthew, Mason, and Garrett. He treasured the time spent with them, and loved playing with them in the backyard or watching westerns and war movies with his boys nestled in his lap.
He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Penrod Warner, father James H. Warner, sister Barbara J. Sylvester and wife Brenda Lu Warner. He is survived by sons, Jeffrey Brian (Melanie) and J. Douglas (Nicole); as well as grandsons, Matthew, Mason, and Garrett. He is also survived by his sister, Linda; step-brothers, Michael, Steven, and David Warner; and step-sisters, Lisa Warner and Laura Holland.
