Joyce A. McClanahan, age 80 years of West Union, died Wednesday July 20, 2016 at the Adams County Manor. Mrs. McClanahan was born on March 30, 1936 the daughter of the late Wayne and Grace (Beam) Ellis in West Union, Ohio. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Robert C. “Bob” McClanahan.
Mrs. McClanahan was a member of the Bentonville Community Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Doctor Mary McClanahan of State College, Penn. and Marl Jo Cooley and Terry of Wallingford, Ky.; two sons, Mike McClanahan and Kathy of West Union, and Mark McClanahan and Debbie of West Union; one brother, Jack Ellis and Sherry of West Union; one brother-in-law, Jim McClanahan and Connie of West Union; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be on Friday July 22, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Bentonville Community Church under the directions of the Thompson-Meeker Funeral Home with John Greenlee officiating. Burial will follow in the Kirker Cemetery. Visitation will be held two hours prior the day of the service at the church.
Robert C. McClanahanRobert C. McClanahan, 59, of West Union, died Monday, July 1, at his home. He was born July 6, 1936, in Liberty Township, the son of the late Albert K. and Beulah Belle (Roush) McClanahan. Mr. McClanahan was a member of the West Union First Presbyterian Church, Scioto County Milk Producers Association, Bentonville Anti-Horse Thief Society, the Kirker Cemetery Association, and he was a Liberty Township Trustee. He is survived by his wife, Joyce A. (Ellis) McClanahan of West Union; two sons, Mike McClanahan and Mark McClanahan, both of West Union, two daughters, Mary Kay McClanahan, Mary Kay McClanahan of State College, Pennsylvania and Marla Jo Grooms of West Union; one sister, Brenda L. Warner of Grove City; one brother, James A. McClanahan of West Union; an aunt, Ruby Purdin of Cherry Fork, and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 4, at the West Union First Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Jack Lewis Purcell officiating. Burial will be in the Kirker Cemetery, under direction of the Ellis-Beam Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 3, at the funeral home in West Union, and the body will lie in state one hour before service time at the church on Thursday.
