E6 Dr. William Steele McClanahan, born January 1, 1857 in Monmouth, Illinois, died August 1, 1931 in Galeburg, Illinois; physician and surgeon, Woodhull, Henry County, Illinois; married May 28, 1884 Mabel Sophronia Matteson, from Berwick, Warren County, Illinois, daughter of Benjamin Peleg Matteson. Mabel was born December 26, 1861, died December 30, 1944. Three children.

DR. M'CLANAHAN DIES SATURDAY
Aged Physician Succumbs Following Lengthy Illness

Dr. William S. McClanahan, father of Dr. B. V. McClanahan, died at his home, 939 Beecher avenue, at 3:45 o'clock Saturday afternoon of angina pectoris. He had been gradually failing in health since a serious illness in January, 1929, but had been able to be up and about to the last.

The deceased was born January 1, 1857, in Monmouth and died at the age of 74 years and 8 months. He received his education in the Monmouth public schools and Monmouth college. He later attended the Rush Medical college from which he graduated with the class of 1883.

He began his practice of medicine in West Jersey and later practiced in Woodhull for twenty years. He retired from the profession eleven years ago after practicing in Galesburg for thirteen years.

Dr. McClanahan was married to Mabel S. Matteson, May 28, 1884. He is survived by his widow; two sons, Earl M. of Chicago and Dr. B. V. McClanahan of Galesburg; and one daughter Mrs. William C. Brook of Chicago.

The following brothers, Dr. J. M. of Kirkwood, C L. of Monmouth, Dr. A. C. of Delta, Colorado, A. I. of Idaho, and T. N. of Fort Morgan, Colorado, also survive.

The grandchildren surviving are: Miss Polly McClanahan of Chicago; Miss Jean Brook of Chicago; Miss Mary and Miss Ann McClanahan of Galesburg.

Dr. McClanahan formerly lived at 862 North Cherry street and about seven years ago moved to 939 Beecher avenue.

Funeral Services.

Funeral services were held from the Dean Funeral Home at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon. Rev. S. H. Zendt, pastor of the First Christian church, conducted the services. Appropriate music was furnished by Mrs. F. Y. Greene at the organ.

Casket bearers were: Benjamin Giddings, Marshall Giddings, Robert Giddings, Clare Walker, Ralph McClanahan, and Fred Patterson. nephews of the deceased. Interement was made in the Monmouth mausoleum.


MOTHER AND WIFE OF PHYSICIANS DIES; ILL A WEEK

Mrs. Mabel McClanahan, 964 North Kellogg street, widow of the late Dr. William McClanahan, died in St. Mary's hospital this morning at 1:45 o'clock of pneumonia after an illness of a week. Mrs. McClanahan was first taken ill with a heavy cold.

Until recently Mrs. McClanahan had been very active in many organizations and especially in the First Presbyterian church. She was a charter member of the P. E. O. chapter at Woodhull and after locating in 1907 became a charter member of W chapter of P. E. O. and had served ass president of the group. Other interests of Mrs. McClanahan were in the Oliver Holmes club and the D. A. R.

Mabel Matteson was born Dec. 26, 1861 on a farm two miles north of Berwick where her youth was spent and where she was residing at the time of her marriage to Dr. William S. McClanahan, May 28, 1884.

The family home was first located at West Jersey where the doctor practiced for three years before locating in Woodhull in which community the McClanahans resided until 1907. The doctor remained in active practice here until 1919; 12 years before his death in August, 1931.

Mrs. McClanahan, the wife of a doctor, was the mother of a physician, Dr. B. V. McClanahan of this city and two other surviving children; E. M. McClanahan, Chicago; and Mrs. W. C. Brook, also of Chicago. There are four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services are to be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Dean Funeral home where friends may call next Tuesday. Committal will be in a Monmouth mausoleum.
